The Long road to Virtual Assistant Career

virtual assistant careerA year ago, I checked off an exciting path, I bumped into the idea of Virtual Assistant when I read a post from Ms. Piper Ramboanga. I knew that this was it. Virtual assisting was exactly what I dreamed to do and would use the skills I had developed from BPO.

I'd worked from a BPO before as an outbound and inbound customer service representative. I've known for some years that my dream job was a job that I could do from any place at the comfort of my home.

After reading a post from Ms. Piper, I decided to browse the YouTube in the hope of finding a better understanding of a Virtual Profession. By then, I invited my friend to enroll in the virtual assistant training conducted by KOM Academy. It has several modules and was scheduled during weekend. But then again, I could not cope up with the schedule due to unscheduled meeting from our office. Secondly, my wife was about to gave birth to our firstborn anytime that particular month. I could not do anything but to cancel the training but with the hopes of enrolling it once more. I followed Ms. Piper's page and read every schedule from time to time in the hope that there will be training that would fit my schedule. On May 2017, the opportunity to attend the training has arrived; I was so excited, arrange a personal leave just not to miss the virtual training opportunity. But the opportunity played a trick on me, it was again canceled, Ms. Piper was hospitalized, in order not to compromise her health, She canceled the training, to which, it should be, since health is the only wealth a human would have. Patiently, I waited again for another opportunity, another chance, another hope.

Here comes September 2017, the long wait was over, I received a text from KOM Academy, inviting me to attend the Virtual Assistant Training. I was very fortunate and inspired on the things that I can attain using the Social media. I will have this training as my guidance to my long and rough road of virtual assistant profession. With the tools shared by Ms. Piper, I am optimistic of being an expert on this field.

For the doubters of home  based work, here are the debunked myths about this growing sector.

Remote Work Means Productivity Decreases  It’s easy to assume that someone who works at home is more distracted because they don’t have a boss within earshot to keep them being monitored. But, virtual assistants avoid these interruptions and the time needed to refocus after the interruption.
Home  based work Means Your Data Is Unsecured  Many worries that transferring company's profile and data to computers on unsecured servers will lead to breaches in privacy. This is simply not true.
Communication Suffers  when someone works at home, it doesn't mean that the communication will go down. There are communication tools that can be use for offsite meetings (e.g. Skype).
